Segel wanted a “Harrison Ford type,” and went to audition people who looked like Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they had to bring it to Ford first, thinking he would immediately reject it, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford had brought the project, which sparked interest from other big-name actors.

Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was excited nonetheless.. From the reviews I read here, it seems like people either love or hate this show, and it seems like it might depend on the reviewers’ reaction to Jason Segal.
The relationships are complex and emotional, and the very real human challenges are well-drawn
I’ve enjoyed his movies and I think he’s perfect for the role – and the addition of Harrison Ford takes the show to an even higher level. The writing is excellent, the story is fresh, and the characters are original without going over the top into the stereotypically too bizarre.
It can be laugh-out-loud one minute and tear-jerking the next
I was really disappointed after the second episode when I realized I’d have to wait for the next one. Highly recommended!
